Puttur, May 14: Arrest of a person accused of raping a housewife led for tension in front of Uppinangady police station on Monday May 14 before police brought the situation under control.

Problem started when a group of Muslim youth caught accused Moosa and handed him over to the police on Monday.  As soon as the news spread that Moosa, who had raped his neighbouring woman a couple of days ago and was hiding, had been handed over to the police, another group of youth came to the police station and asked the police to hand him over to them.  But the police denied any such possibilities.  But the youth who were enraged with Moosa were bent on getting him from police custody and teaching him a lesson or two caused a little bit of problem before the police managed to disperse them along with the help of some local leaders.

Moosa is said to have raped his neighbouring woman on Thursday May 8.  The said woman was on her way to her parental house at Nelyadi and was waiting for the bus in Old Bus Stand at Uppinangady.  Moosa arrived on his car that time and told her that he too was on his way to Nelyadi and would drop her to parental house.  Since both of them were from the same community and she knew Moosa for sometime, she got into his car.

On the way Moosa gave her cold drinks which was in his car. He had added sleeping pills in to the drinks about which the woman was not aware.  She fell unconscious soon after.  When she came back to her senses, she was in an unknown house where Moosa is said to have introduced her as his wife.  On the same night he raped her and left her in Uppinangady on next morning.

Soon the woman passed on the message to her family and filed a complaint with the Uppinangady police.  But Moosa went hiding and was at large till a group of youth came to know about his whereabouts and caught him from a house and Uppinangady.

The police are investigating the case.
