Udupi, May 14: District Congress has urged the district administration and town council to make alternative arrangements for those shopkeepers who have lost their shops owing to eviction drive.

In a memorandum submitted to deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj, a high-level delegation of Congress led by former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake urged that the many petty shopkeepers have been denied of their daily bread owing to eviction drive by the district administration. "So they should be given some alternative arrangements at least on human grounds.

The delegation has also appealed the administration to build new shops at a closer distance to the earlier shops.  There is also a demand to provide space in the taluk office and TP premises.

MLC Pratapchandra Shetty, district Congress president M A Gafoor, Diwakar Kunder, Mahabala Kunder and others were also present on the occasion.
