Champaign, April 27:   Department of Nuclear, Plasma and Radiological Engineering and the American Nuclear Society, Students Chapter held their annual Honors Banquet last night at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center, University of Illinois, Champaign, Urbana.    

James F. Stubbins, NPRE Department Head welcomed the gathering and delivered his opening remarks and highlighted 2007 academic year as they celebrate the excellence and dedication of their students and faculty.  

He announced corporate partners and government agencies who provide many of t he scholarships and fellowships.   He said that, "NPRE also is fortunate to have a number of gift funds that alumni and friends have established to reward outstanding students.   As we enter the age of nuclear renaissance, we encourage you to consider a gift to NPRE to support our future generation of nuclear engineers."  

He announced the Nuclear Power Engineering Education Program Scholarship winner who makes the top students of the program; Anil D'Souza was one of them.   Anil is also a member of American Nuclear Society Executive Committee member as its Engineering Council Representative.   

Anil was also in College Honors – Dean's List, eligible undergraduate who achieved a GPA for a given semester that placed him in the top 20 percent of their university for Spring/Fall 2006.   Anil will be graduating from two majors this May, - Nuclear, Plasma and Radiological Engineering and Biochemistry. 

Kenneth D. Lewis, Ph.D., P.E., Dean, College of Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technology, South Carolina State University was the guest speaker who spoke on "The Engineer as a Servant of Society."   He has won over $1.5 million in external grants during his tenure at SCSU.  He was named Fellow of the American Nuclear Society, a distinction held by fewer than 5 percent of that society's 11,000 members.
