Irish police arrest 60 people in drug dealing probe

Dublin, Jun 11 (IANS): Irish police said on Wednesday they had arrested 60 people in Dublin, Cork and Wexford cities as part of a probe into drug dealing.

Police said those arrested have been charged with over 200 drugs offenses in the past 48 hours, adding that searches were carried out at 50 homes, Xinhua reported.

The covert operation into the supply of heroin, cocaine and other drugs has been ongoing for six months, according to police sources.

The operation in south Ireland's Wexford city resulted in the arrest of seven men and two women, including a family criminal gang.

Police said the investigation also targeted two other heroin supply networks in Dublin and south Ireland's Cork cities.

In Ireland, there has been a rise in the number of people caught using and supplying drugs.
