Margao, Apr 19: South Goa's Lok Sabha member Churchill Alemao would quit the Congress Party on May 9, a day after the notification of Assembly election gets issued on May 8.

"I don’t want the assembly election along with Lok Sabha election in the state on same date, It will create a confusion. For this reason I had waited for the proper time, which will come on May 9, Alemao told Daijiworld correspondent soon after the assembly elections on June 2 were declared.

Over the last several months, Alemao has been criticizing Congress on various issues. He did not lose any chance to vent his anger and expose the party leaders.

Alemao always said that the main reason to rebel within the party was that Congress had failed to serve the Goans, but instead had served themselves. He had also alleged that the Congress government benefited not a single poor person.

Mopa Airport, the script issue, six-lane Express Highway and PDS scheme were the main issues he had placed with the party, but party always sidelined his issues, as he said always at the time of meetings held in several places of South Goa.

Alemao had played vital role to topple the BJP govt. in the state, but after regretted saying that BJP was good than Congress.

He has also thrown a challenge to ensure the defeat of the Congress candidate from South Goa in this forthcoming election.

Although he lambasted CCongress on several occasions, no action has been taken on him by party High Command as yet.

All India Congress committee secretary Mabel Rebello on Sunday April 15 evening had hinted that action would be taken against him, but before they would take any step towards it, Alemao would quit.

Alemao will now contest from the Navelim constituency on the ticket of "Save Goa Front", a new party formed by him, against the Congress leader and education minister Luizinho Faliero.
