New Delhi, June 6 (IANS): A court here on Saturday set August 11 for recording the statement of Irom Sharmila in an attempt-to-suicide case against her during her fast-unto-death here in 2006.

Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain fixed the date after closing the recording of statement of prosecution witnesses of the case.

The court recorded the statement of prosecution witness Vijay Kumar, who had done videography of the spot where Sharmila was on hunger strike.

Kumar, then posted as photographer and videographer in police section of New Delhi district told court that it is wrong to suggest that video footage produced on record is tampered.

While being cross-examined, he stated that it is wrong to suggest that violation of human rights committed by Delhi police officials during the demonstrations is deliberately withheld or removed from the records.

The court on Friday had recorded the statement of three policemen in the case who testified as witnesses in the case.

Sharmila has been on a fast for the past 12 years, demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

The court March 4, 2013, framed charges against Sharmila, popularly known as "Iron lady", for attempting to commit suicide, and put her on trial after she refused to plead guilty of the offence.

However, Sharmila denied that she attempted suicide while fasting at Jantar Mantar here.
