Fake call centre busted in Delhi, 9 held

Gurgaon, June 3 (IANS): The cyber crime cell of police here has busted a fake call centre in Delhi and arrested nine persons for cheating people across the country, police said on Wednesday.

Acting on a complaint from Subrata Roy, a resident of Kendriya Vihar here, police busted the fake call centre in Delhi's Tagore Garden.

In his complaint filed in February, Roy said someone duped him of nearly Rs.9,000 through his credit card after he received a call offering discount on teleshopping.

"The call centre was duping people using credit cards for online shopping. They have cheated thousands of people across the country except Delhi," a police officer said.

Nine people have been arrested but mastermind Manpreet Singh was absconding, the officer said.

Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said: "We are writing to police of different states to inform them about the fraud."
