Two tourism policemen killed near Egypt's Giza Pyramids

Cairo, June 3 (IANS): Two tourism policemen were killed by gunmen on Wednesday near the Giza Pyramids in Egypt, state-run news agency MENA reported.

Three unidentified gunmen opened fire at the two policemen in Haram district of Giza, seriously wounding them -- the policemen later succumbed to their injuries at hospital, a security source told MENA.

Interior Minister Magdi Abdel Ghaffar has ordered an investigation to determine the identity of the assailants, the source added.

The Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, which has recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) Sunni radical group, claims responsibility for most of the anti-government attacks.
