Civil n-cooperation ‘right of Pakistan’ also: Foreign secretary

Islamabad, June 2 (IANS): Pakistan's top diplomat has asserted that akin to India, Pakistan also enjoys the right to civil nuclear cooperation.

“Our power generation is as per international standards and it is protected under International Energy Agency (IEA) guidelines,” Pakistani Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry told Geo News in Washington where he is currently on an official visit.

“Pakistan has adopted satisfactory measures for protection of its nuclear assets and terrorists cannot even think of coming close to nuclear installations,” he asserted.

He went on to say that acquiring nuclear capability was required for Pakistan to maintain peace and balance of power in South Asia.

He said the Non-Proliferation Treaty of nuclear weapons was a prejudiced treaty and Pakistan would not sign any such accord.
