Shocked at ship capsize in China river: Modi


New Delhi, June 2 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he was shocked on hearing that a cruise ship with at least 458 people aboard has capsized in a China river.

"Shocked to learn of the sinking of a cruise ship in the Yangtze river," an official release quoted Modi as saying.

"I pray for the safety and wellbeing of those on board," Modi said.

Twenty people have been rescued so far off a passenger ship that was carrying 458 people. It capsized due to a storm late Monday night.

The vessel -- Dongfangzhixing or The Eastern Star -- was heading to Chongqing city from Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province.
