Lucknow, June 2 (IANS): As many as 11.31 lakh NCC cadets from across the country would aim for a world record on June 21 - the first-ever International Yoga Day - by participating in a yoga event here, officials said on Tuesday.

The decision follows a communique by the state department of Ayush to the National Cadet Corps to ask all scouts and guides to work towards making the Yoga Day a huge success.

On a daylong visit to the state capital on Monday, NCC Director Deneral Lt.Gen. Anirudh Chakravarti said that of the 11.31 lakh cadets who would perform yoga on June 21, as many as 89,000 would be from Uttar Pradesh.

Preparations were on for the event, to be held between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on June 21, an official told IANS.

Chakravarti said there were 70,000 youngsters waiting to be assimilated in the NCC.

The United Nations, at the bidding of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has declared June 21 as the World Yoga Day.
