Delhi billionaire Bhanwarlal Doshi gives-up 600 Cr business empire, becomes monk

AHMEDABAD, Jun 2 (TOI): Delhi's 'plastics king', Bhanwarlal Raghunath Doshi, gave up his over Rs 600-crore business empire to embrace Jain monastic life at an extravagant ceremony in the city on Sunday.

Doshi became a monk under the discipleship of Jain Acharya, Shri Gunratna Surishwarji Maharaj. Doshi became the 108th disciple of Surishwarji Maharaj and 354th postulant to become a monk under him.

Father of two sons and a daughter, Doshi had been planning to take diksha since 1982 after Jain lectures drew him to spirituality. However, he could convince his family only last year. As many as 101 people from the audience also took a sankalp (resolution) to take Jain diksha during the next five years.

The diksha venue — the Ahmedabad Education Ground — was built on the theme of a 'samyam jahaj' (ship of restraint) that had cost Rs 100 crore. Apart from 1,000 sadhus and sadhvis, the event also had 1.5 lakh samayiks (spectators).

A large number of dignitaries, including Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, honoured Doshi at the event. On Saturday, a 7km procession, 'Varsi Daan', was taken out with 1,000 Jain monks, 12 chariots, nine elephants, nine camel carts and traditional musicians.

It is very hard to give up one's riches of his hard work. When one lives in this materialistic world there is so much desire to live the most luxurious life. Man is both material and spiritual. Of course I feel this man is great as after realizing that he has to live for greater glory of God that is to attain moksha by practicing spirituality more closely with God and give up is material wealth . Great decision. May God bless him for his future life as Monk.

Gautam Adani of Adani group, Jathin Mehta of Winsome diamond Group, Jignesh Shah of NSEL ,who have all taken huge loan from our Nationalized Banks and defaulted, are also Gujarati Jains. Amit Shah the Left-hand of Modiji is also a Jain. So if these Adani, Jatin Mehta, Jignesh Shah and Amit Shah take Sanyasa just like Doshi then all our Nationalized Banks will surely become safe.
S.K. Jain the arrested Chairman of Syndicate Bank and greatest share market fraudsters of 1990s like Harshad Mehta and Ketan Parekh are also Jains. Harshad mehta is no more but others can take Sanyasa so that the Share Market and Banks can remain safe.

It is not a big News when one has so much Money as Mr.Doshi and is sure that his Family continues to collect further billions, and live as Monk.At least one can be happy he didnt become politician to loot People. The question is during his working time as a real believer of Jain Religion did he treat his workers fair and pay them well?and their Family?Building some temples (any Religion)doesn't mean he does good work.when one helps poor and help their children to get good education is a noble work or help in some social Institutes where old and helpless People are there, give medical help to poor one is better than hiding in temple and praying.of course we wish him all the best. But Mamu, dont go to become a Monk.Daijiworld will be poor without you.you prayers will be heard by billions of People.what you say?

Rita, you are judging him based on your perception of what is righteous. For you helping the poor, schools, old age homes or anything that is 'Christian' is acceptable. I find this to be a Christian condescension from your part. People have their ways of life and belief which is their right. For your information, Jains , Buddhists and for that matter Hindus there is no god but divine people. They believe in Humanity as opposed to praising the 'creator' who manages the universe. You should do some soul searching and understand people better. He has a big enterprise which takes care of several employees if he dumps this and say gives the money to your 'Church', what is the fate of his employees?. Do you want them to stay outside the church for charity ?.

Means nothing Dr. Kamath. Warren Buffett is a great human being and one of the biggest philanthropist. He has sacrificed 90% of his wealth for charity! Yes. Jain is hoping to succeed him and one of the most respected officers of the company which was purely on merit. I doubt whether Mr. Jain can be called an Indian. Don't forget he is more American than Indian. Here Mr Bhanwarlal Doshi did more of adambara than charity. He spent Crores and crores of rupees for this function which does not make sense at all.

My sincere advise to the people... I am a senior citizen, worked in gulf for about 40 years.... People will earn money for themselves, their children than to their grand children. when we die you have go alone... Please don't think of earning more and more...just earn for yourself... when we go final day no one will come along with you. Our politicians earn more and more and finally they have carry their bad doings with them. What he understood the above so he started doing good work.

We will find so many like this who spend lot of money to temples churhes masjids and etc to print the name in media but they will not give a rupee to the hungry or the needy or a good cause. Everybody is earning we are earning . How much we should? we dont have answer. Invest here invest there. We loose our peace of mind and family for this. We dont know what outr children are doing what are their feelings. We think we have admitted them to well known college we are giving all of luxury to them.
Husband is earning. Though its enough for them still wife is earning because they have only one house so they want to buy one more house. They will keep small kid with baby sitter and go for earning. They are thinking that they are earning for kid? They bring food from Mcdonalds KFc pizzahut and child will like it very much. They dont want to waste time on cooking. SO artificial life starts. A mothers care is very important in child's growth. Somewhere that bonding is broken at early stage. We have lot of people who have million and millions but struggling at later stage . Thay need care but children are careless and waiting for their death so that they can grab property. Reality but still the story continues in same manner.

A Poor Man is always a 'Monk'
Not sure when he would 'Conk'
A Rich Man need not even 'Honk'
Thinks he can even give God a 'Tonk'

    Don't be surprise.
Our Country once had many kingdoms.
That's the reason more of invaders attacked our country.
    Still it's continue.
Nation is having more wealth in all the means.
Resources are given in abundant by the god.
It's still now continuing in the same manner.

Gives up business to whom? normally it will be to his own family. Hope he was paying salary and other benefits and holidays to his employees as per the labour laws. Most of the employers or almost all the employers doesn't follow labour laws whether it is salary/benefits or holidays. They treat employees like slaves. Hope that is not the same case here.

While doing something in the name of god do it secretly. No need fun fare. Again it turn to business ideology.

It's true when the person seen all in life comes to know at the end - by money cannot able to buy everything - a peaceful life.

Many billionaires from western countries are settled down in India at last to seek spiritual knowledge. Some are even construct house up above a tree to have a solitary life.
