BJP protests outside Kejriwal's residence against alleged plans to buy surveillance equipment

New Delhi, May 30 (NDTV): Dozens of BJP activists today protested outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence against what the party alleges are attempts of snooping by the AAP government.

Police had to use water cannons to disperse the protesters; a former BJP mayor was injured and had to be hospitalised.

The protests were triggered by a cabinet note circulated on Friday that reportedly says that the government proposes to spend Rs. 35 crore on purchasing high-end equipment for monitoring and surveillance.

"AAP wants to break into people's privacy. Who gave them the right to tap phone calls of the citizens of Delhi?" Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhayay said.

The government has denied the allegations. "There is no proposal by the Delhi government to procure anything called as a snooping equipment and no such cabinet note has been circulated," Nagendar Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister, tweeted on Friday.

Why is BJP so scared of snooping? If you are clean, sincere, honest & transparent you should not be scared of AAP. You are trying to malign the image of AAP by hook or crook. This shows your frustration level for getting measly 3 seats out of 70. If you continue thus you will fall in deep hole never to resurface again.

    Kejriwal's party is poor.

It cannot afford crores and crores needed to buy the media and the journalists.

So, as expected, at times, AAP cannot defend itself from the onslaught of false allegations coming from the BJP and its supporters. To defend, one needs the media to publish their version of things - which media may not willingly do.

Despite this Kejriwal and his party are doing admirably well.

And as we can see, BJP is failing in every game they devise to contain Kejriwal.

If Kejriwal continues this way, BJP is going to fall apart very soon.

Since AAP came to power on 14th Feb., 2015 they have protested for each and every thing. Nearly 30 to 40 protests have taken place. I think they should be called naxalite and sent to the forest as said by Namo. Even they protested for Tomar's degree certificate when it was genuine. Since the BJP leaders have no work after the loss in Delhi Assembly election protesting is the only job left for them. These 100 days of AAP real governance has eaten away their complete income and the High Court judgement on 25th and 29th May favouring AAP has made BJP and congress more restless. Time for all these corrupted leaders to take complete rest and AAP will now start ruling the country and state.

Abdul Rafiq..you don't know the ground realities of Delhi. Before commenting anything, study the entire situation. It's not like scribbing in sitting in AC room. Have some brains before you comment.

    Bevakoofonka Pithashree,
'Snooping equipments' does not mean the only CCTV cameras you have seen till now. It includes microphones, phone tapping devices, keyboard typing analysis microphones ( they analyse the sound and patterns of keys typed and make out what has been typed), hidden cameras etc.
