Six killed in Afghanistan bombing

Kabul, May 26 (IANS): At least six civilians were killed after a vehicle touched off an improvised explosive device, causing a blast in Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Monday, a provincial government spokesperson said.

"The incident took place at around 8.10 p.m. along a road in Nikashalli area of Shah Wali Kot district, which left six people aboard the vehicle killed on the spot," Xinhua quoted spokesperson Samim Khpalwak as saying.

The official blamed the Taliban militants for the attack.

Nearly 3,700 civilians were killed and more than 6,800 others wounded in conflicts and Taliban-led attacks in 2014, according to official figures by the UN mission in the country.

Officials blame the attacks of Taliban insurgents and other armed groups for vast majority of the civilian deaths and injuries in the country.
