Congress team to inquire into Rajasthan caste violence

New Delhi, May 25 (IANS): The Congress on Monday said it has set up a fact-finding team to inquire into rising incidents of atrocities on Scheduled Castes in Nagaur city of Rajasthan, where the BJP is in power.

The four-member team comprises Rajya Sabha MP Vijalakshmi Sadho, Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, ex-Delhi minister Raj Kumar Chauhan and AICC secretary Dipak Babaria.

"Congress president has approved a fact-finding team to inquire into the rising atrocities against Dalits in Nagaur, Rajasthan," a party release said here.

On May 14, a violent caste clash in Nagaur led to the loss of five lives, including four Dalits. Earlier, three Dalits were burnt alive in Nagaur.

The Congress, trying to take up more Dalit issues, has chalked out plans to organise the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of B. R. Ambedkar.

The year-round celebrations would be inaugurated by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh on June 2.
