Odisha continues to reel under intense heat

Bhubaneswar, May 25 (IANS): An intense heat wave continued to sweep most parts of Odisha on Monday with the industrial town of Angul recording the highest temperature in the state at 47 degrees Celsius, officials said.

An official in the state's special relief commissioner's office said the toll due to sunstroke has so far remained at five.

Other towns which recorded temperatures of more than 46 degrees were Hirakud at 46.6, Titilagarh at 46.5, Sambalpur and 46.4, Jharsuguda at 46.4, and Bolangir at 46.2.

People stayed indoors in most places during peak hours. Roads wore a deserted look, while private and government offices in some places saw thin attendance.
