New Delhi, May 23 (IANS): The AAP government on Saturday decided to call a two-day special session of the Delhi assembly to discuss the Centre's notification that stripped it of various powers.

"A special session has been called on May 26 and May 27 to discuss the Centre's notification which has taken away power from the Delhi assembly," the Delhi government said in a statement.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The statement further said that legal opinions from constitutional experts like K.K. Venugopal and former Solicitor General of India Gopal Subramanium were placed before the cabinet and discussed in the meeting.

"The cabinet also decided that depending on the requirement, the session can be extended further," the statement said.

The home ministry on Thursday issued a notification saying that public order, land, police and services will be under the purview of the Lt. Governor.

The notification was issued following an ongoing tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party government and Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung over the appointment and transfer of bureaucrats.

Both had approached the president.
