Manesar residents protest DLF construction

Gurgaon, May 21 (IANS): Residents of Manesar on Thursday staged protests and forced DLF company to stop construction work on new sites which was started despite the Supreme Court's order.

Hundreds of people led by former Manesar sarpanch (village head) Omprakash Yadav protested at construction site in Sector 1.

Protesters alleged the company was undertaking construction despite the Supreme Court's bar on new constructions.

"Police reached on the spot and assistant town planner Manoj Yadav was called on the spot and construction work was stopped," a senior police officer said.

The apex court has barred construction on over 600 acres of land of Manesar and three other villages.

The Haryana government first issued notices to acquire these lands a few years back but withdrew the orders after private builders purchased the land. The farmers took the matter to the Supreme Court.

No one from DLF was available for comments.
