IAS association 'slept like Kumbhkaran' when officers were removed by centre: AAP's Ashutosh

New Delhi, May 21 (NDTV): After IAS officers deplored the way their colleagues in Delhi are being treated in a power struggle between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today retaliated in a series of tweets.

"IAS association was sleeping like Kumbhkaran when Home Secretary and Foreign Secretary were humiliated and removed," AAP leader Ashutosh tweeted this morning, referring to the sacking of the two top bureaucrats by the BJP-led government at the Centre earlier this year.

On Wednesday, the IAS Officers' Association met to discuss the escalating turf war between Mr Kejriwal and the Lieutenant Governor, which has resulted in one officer being publicly criticized and another ignominiously removed and locked out of his office.

Among those present in the meeting was Shakuntala Gamlin, whose appointment by the Lieutenant Governor last week triggered the ugly row. Mr Kejriwal alleges that Ms Gamlin had favoured power distribution companies and acted against public interest.

The officers passed a resolution saying: "We view with anguish the way IAS officers have been treated and subjected to character assassination, we condemn it."

Striking back at Mr Jung, the Chief Minister removed the Principal Secretary who signed off on the decision to appoint Shakuntala Gamlin, Anindo Majumdar. Mr Majumdar was on Monday locked out of his office. Two more officers were appointed in his place, but they too, are caught in the crossfire.

Yesterday, the Lieutenant Governor wrote to the Delhi government saying all transfers and appointments in the past few days stand cancelled as they were not approved by him.

Amid reports that many bureaucrats had requested to be transferred out of Delhi and those working outside did not want to return, Mr Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia met with officers yesterday.

Sources in the home ministry claim at least a dozen officers have applied for transfers, but AAP has rejected it.

This is a big game by centre to bring Kejri down they can do anything and they can buy everything. Last time Congress plotted the plan well now its BJP. How can BJP forget that loss in Delhi so they have to take the revenge. They will weaken he police system there and Kejri can do nothing. They wont allow Delhi to get independent. This is called politics. Truth doesn't prevail. If Kejri is allowed to rule independently he will rule whole India soon. They know it very well. Neither Ambanis nor TATAs and all so called giants wont allow Kejri to breathe. This is the truth. Indians are like crabs one goes up then other will pull i t down. this is Indian mentality

This is a trap laid for AAP government to fail. Last time AK did a self goal by resigning on the grounds of Lokpal. Now the BJP through LG is playing the bite if AK gives into it they may go for President’s Rule saying he does not know how to rule Delhi. 3rd time AAP will not get the mandate therefore needs to be very very clever in dealing with these conventional parites they don’t want the clean AAP.

Blame by itself is not bad or wrong.

What does anyone do if the system is fundamentally bad? If the Government is elected on the promise of cleaning up the system, the task is very tough.

The existing officials would not like to get anything changed. They like the status quo preserved as it favours their laziness to continue.

If we want a better India, we the citizens must look carefully at who is trying to change the system for the better, and who wants to maintain it in the current manner so that the big political donors go scot free and are never scrutinized.

Bureaucrats favouring the political donations business persons is the beginning of all corruption.

The public must support Kejriwal in this instance. He is very eager to change things for the better.

Jung is unelected, and is not accountable to the public. Why can't Jung think of the millions who have put their trust in Kejriwal?
