Bihar's Muslims donate land for world's largest Hindu temple

By Imran Khan
Patna, May 19 (IANS): Muslims in Bihar, in a stellar demonstration of communal harmony, have donated land to help build the world's largest Hindu temple which will have the capacity to seat a staggering 20,000 people.

"Muslims have not only donated land, they have also provided land at a nominal rate for construction of the world's largest Hindu temple. Without help of Muslims, it would have been difficult realise this dream project," Acharya Kishore Kunal, secretary of the Patna-based cash-rich Mahavir Mandir Trust that is undertaking the ambitious project, told IANS.

Kunal, a former Indian Police Service officer, said that Muslims have come forward to ensure that the temple comes up soon. The construction of the temple will commence in June at Janki Nagar near Kesaria in East Champaran district, about 150 km from here. It will cost over Rs.500 crore.

"It is usual for Hindus to donate land for temple, but it is unusual for Muslims to donate land for the construction of temple," he said and added that Muslims should be lauded for joining hands with Hindus to donate land for a pious cause.

Kunal said that more than three dozen Muslim families have their land in the middle of the proposed location of the temple and some Muslims families have land along the main road that connects to the project site.

"Some Muslims donated lands and others helped and supported us to purchase their land for the temple. If Muslims had not come forward, the temple project was sure to have got delayed..."

He said that Mahavir Mandir Trust has obtained 200 acres of land. "Hindus and Muslims have donated about 50 acres of land and the remaining has been purchased."

Earlier, some Muslims had helped build a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Durga in Gaya district, another temple was dedicated to God Shiva in Begusarai district and in Sitamarhi district.

Mumbai-based Valecha Construction Company will construct the temple, which will be 2,500 feet long, 1,296 feet wide and 379 feet high.

"The temple will be earthquake proof (since it) is near the Nepal border," Kunal said.

Gurgaon based Radheyshyam Sharma, director of Indgenious Studio Pvt Ltd, will look after the architectural aspects.

He said the Virat Ramayan Mandir will be taller than the world famous 12th century Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia, which is 215 feet high. The complex will comprise 18 temples with high spires and its Shiv temple would have the largest Shivling in the world, another distinction.

He said the temple would have a seating capacity of 20,000 people in the hall facing the main temple having the idols of Ram, Sita, Luv and Kush. According to him, no temple in the world has such a huge seating capacity.

He said the temple was to be named "Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir", but later its name was changed following objections by people in Cambodia.

Angkor Wat was built during king Suryavarman's rule and is today a Unesco World Heritage site.

This is all happens in our beautiful India only. Being a Hindu, I must tender our unconditional gesture of goodwill towards those Muslim Bandhus for donating their land for Temple construction. I hope that one day Ram Mandir issue will be solved like this and people of India never fight each other in the name of religion. Because we need to close the issues one by one so that next generation will not waste time and money for these decade old issues

Great gesture. This is the only way India can survive and prosper. Hope Hindus reciprocate and recognize the contribution of Muslim brothers for this temple.

In this topic I want to remind all my friends here about many sucn examples in our own back yard. I heard recently story of how the corporation bank founder, Khan Bahadur Haji Abdullah Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur used to contribute to Krishna mata Udupi to their yearly rituals.

If we understand history we can avoid many present and future mistakes.

Instead of building such a big temple, which will be only for hindu faith I feel that all communities could have utilised this generous gift in building a institute for all.

Anyways, all the best to the temple committee and hope that the communal harmony will prevail in the region.

instead of temple or any religious institutions, our concern / effort for humanity.

i congratulate the muslims & hindus of the said place / location, at the same time i feel that that time/money/land/energy can be utilized to construct and run a tuberculosis center to teach people & treat people. is it not daiji readers ?

also, let the people fighting for ayodhya ( both side !!) sit together & develop the location a centre for malaria eradication from india. Reserch centre for biodiversity can be planned at varanasi, so on & so forth.

and one ram temple & one babri masjid will not solve the problems of indian citizen.

let modi / rahul / sitaram yechury / mulayam / mayavathi / muslim league.... sit together & convert the disputed land of ayodhya into a center of advance physics.

just hoping... one day we will realize this & from that day, nobody can beat india.

i would like to visit scientific ayodhya than disputed ayodhya. i dont think that ram or babar can solve problems of indis, unless we stop fighting on silly issues.

    mera bhartah mahan.

Appreciated! very good gesture! I am sure, with the temple, rural economy, tourism, and related industries will also grow!... Yahi is mitti ki khaasiyat hai!... Visit east of UP - Poorvanchal .. the other side is so dark! there is absolutely nothing! but still if you see major mathematics and IIT brains and IAS qualifieds come from this region, specially from patna side! they lack jobs!I remember what Modi said, when there was bomb blast in patna, bahut ho gaya ek doosre se ladayi... ab Gareebi se lado!.. I have seen everywhere, Biharis getting beaten up, because they seek job elsewhere and live like mazdoor slum dwellers!

    let this be the beginning!
"Jo abr yahan se uthega, wo saare jahan par barsega" ...! for those who dont understand urdu - The water (goodwill) that evaporated from here, will come down as rain elsewhere... what you sow, so shall u reap!

If a George fernandes from Mangalore, can go and fight election from a muslim majority area Muzaffarnagar kind of village, where he had no caste or religion voter - and if Biharis had accepted him as a leader, they surely are great people!

PM Modi's perception is working in Bihar and all over world. BJP victory in Bihar assembly election now only confirmed.
Any way Good gesture by Bihar Muslims and it should be appreciated by all Hindus.

Hindus should stop building Temples now instead start building Schools, Hospitals, Orphanage. Same like Veerendra Hegde Sir of Shri Kshetra, Dharmasthala .

First we Hindus must understand the purpose behind building temples.

Indian temples were not designed for prayer or worship but rather they were built as powerful energy centers using a particular science known as agama shastra (Vedic method for Meditating or kundalini awakening ).

Hello All, I have a different opinion on this, please hear me out. I am not a fan of institutions like a church / mosque / temple and others. Having said that, Hinduism as we all know is a way of life so donating that land to some group or people is not the same as donating to Hindu dharma. I being a mangalorean, don't need to be obligated to such a gift.
I would have preferred if the Muslim's united together with every other community in India and shunned the unwanted elements such as the Taliban/ISIS and others. That would be bigger than any temple that is being planned. I would also say that all religions do the same. Unity would be the biggest gift to India and mankind.
