Jammu lawyers boycott courts

Jammu, May 19 (IANS): The Jammu Bar Association (JBA) continued its boycott of courts for a second day on Tuesday to press its demand for the establishment of an AIIMS in the region.

Lawyers in Jammu kept away from courts. Most cases in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and subordinate courts had to be adjourned because of non-availability of pleaders.

The strike also took place in adjoining Samba district.

JBA president Abhinav Sharma had called for a boycott of courts to press for the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Jammu region.

The central government has allotted an IIT to Jammu region and an AIIMS to the Kashmir valley.

While the site for IIT has been identified in Samba district, that for an AIIMS in the valley is yet to be notified.
