Teenaged girl killed in Bengal for rejecting advances


Kolkata, May 18 (IANS): A 16-year-old girl was mowed down by a youth on a motorcycle in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district after she allegedly rejected his advances, police said Monday.

The incident happened under Canning police station area in the district on Sunday.

According to the police complaint filed by the victim's family on Monday, the youth used to regularly harass the class 10 student. On Sunday, he again approached the girl and enraged by her rejection, he mowed down her with his motorcycle.

"We have received a complaint and looking into it. No arrest has been made so far in this connection," said a police officer.

"The boy always used to harass my daughter. Yesterday (Sunday), she was walking with me when he again came and threatened of dire consequences if she did not agree to marry him. When she refused to budge, he hit her with bike with full force," said the mother.

"When we took her to the hospital, the doctor said she is dead," said the mother demanding death penalty for the assailant.
