Mother Teresa to be canonised in September 2016

Kochi, May 18 (IANS): Mother Teresa would be canonised in September 2016, senior priest and spokesperson of the Syro Malabar Church Paul Thelekat said on Monday.

Pope John Paul-II beatified Mother Teressa on October 192003.

"As a Christian, I am eagerly waiting for the canonization of Mother Teresa. She has been a mother to millions of Indian especially the poorest of the poor and the underprivileged," Thelekat told IANS.

"Christians and her followers will continue her work among the poor with a winged humanism which the Hindu fundamentalists failed to understand. Where have all the converts that the great missionaries of this age and especially Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, were supposed to have proselytized gone? If Christianity converts it is to that winged humanism which India needs so dearly," added Thelekat.

The Albanian born Teresa turned a nun and was given Indian citizenship in 1948. She founded the Missionaries of Charity and worked for the welfare of poor and the downtrodden.

Mother Teressa breathed her last on September 5th 1997.

“I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, he will not ask, 'How many good things have you done in your life?' rather he will ask, 'How much love did you put into what you did?”

It is a surprise that a woman from a foreign country should come to our land to show the unceasing love of God through kindly deeds towards the poor and down trodden. How she cleaned the dirty people lying in the ditches and all kinds of dirt and showed them the love of God through her cleaning them with bare hands and establishing her own congregation for the betterment of the unwanted and ditched people around the world is a living testimony to her holiness. She and her community wore the saree in such a respectful way that the real Indian women should feel shy. When western costumes are mostly liked by Indian women she chose to wear saree for her congregation. Nobody other than Jesus as I know ever loved the poor and unwanted like her. She deserved it before but now also not late. Full of humanity and compassion for the poor she is a rare creation of God a mother of many and a Saint of different nature which the world has seen at last.

Some years back, I watched a BBC competition on TV, where among many questions, one was "Who was that person that took care of destitute, sick, lepers and dying in Calcutta." One answered "St Theresa"
The test conductor said "Wrong answer as per computer, but, I and everyone knows that it is also a right answer, since Mother Theresa is a living saint."
This, present Pope takes quick decisions and from a big rigmarole, he curtails some procedures, so that nothing is kept in abeyance.
Canonizing her is just a procedure and condition of RC church, since she is a saint already.

When mother Teresa saw around her people who r destitutes n abandoned she really dedicated her life to such people - old people, abandoned infants, leprosy stricken poor people, widows etc. She believed that every human being is creation of God and all r here for a purpose. Whatever belief systems one is convinced of and practicing them, as long as u help destitutes it is fine.

Mother came much much later to India. How come such extreme destitution existed for centuries? Why no one bothered to improve living conditions of lepers ? Why human life was so condemned by elitist class?

Mother Teresa was a living Saint. She lived and set an example for us to do the same in order to enjoy the heaven's glory. We pray that God may continue to bless the Missionaries of Charity to carry on the work which has been left behind by Mother Teresa and all those who are patiently looking after the poor, sick and the underprivileged always. Mother pray for us and specially all those who have misunderstood the work which has been carried out by your sisters.
