Probe ordered into women helpline staffer's suicide bid

New Delhi, May 15 (IANS): The Delhi government on Friday ordered a probe into the alleged suicide attempt by a woman telecaller employed with the women helpline 181.

Women and Child Development (WCD) minister Sandeep Kumar has ordered an inquiry and sought a report within seven days, a statement said here on Friday.

On Wednesday evening, the 25-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide claiming that the helpline consultant was harassing her. The victim was rushed to the hospital.

In the wake of the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old paramedic student in the national capital, the then UPA government had set up the 181 helpline for women in Delhi.

The helpline is being run by the Department of Women and Child Development of the Delhi government.
