Kerala's most-wanted Naxal, a law graduate, arrested with wife

Hyderabad, May 5 (NDTV): A law graduate wanted in 20 criminal cases and his wife are among five top Maoists arrested in Tamil Nadu on Monday in what has been described as a major breakthrough for the police of four southern states.

Roopesh and his wife Shyna have evaded arrest for over 10 years, say the Kerala police.

They were tracked down to a bakery at a village near Coimbatore late last night, in a joint operation by the police of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Sources say they were having coffee when the police surrounded them.

Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala called the arrests a "big breakthrough," the result of coordinated efforts by four states.

Intelligence sources say Roopesh and Shyna have led Maoists in Kerala for years and are key strategists in an armed struggle in the region. Roopesh allegedly headed the South Indian Regional Committee of Maoists.

Besides law, Roopesh has also trained in IT and worked for a few years before going underground. He is believed to have joined mainstream Maoist activities through the students' wing of the CPI (ML).

His wife Shyna is a former Kerala High Court employee, said intelligence officials.

Others arrested on Monday night are Anup from Kerala, Veeramani from Karnataka and Kannan from Tamil Nadu.

The police are investigating the role of the alleged Maoists in at least three attacks in Kerala, in which two prominent eateries and a government office were vandalized.

    Parag..
    really pity on ur mindset..
Bomb blast n kill innocent people for differences in religious belief...u call them terrorists

bomb blast n kill innocent people other than religious differences..u dont call them terrorist....

For me killing innocent civilians for any reason is a terror n criminal activity...here i dont see who has done it but i see whats the crime n whats the loss of innocent lives....i see the act as an act of terror n whoever does it is a terrorist...RSS, ISIS, boko haram, LeT, SIMI,BD, IM, alqaeda etc are terror outfits ...some are international n some are indian...some are muslims n some are non muslim outfits...act is same but names are different..there are different brands in terror activities with different degrees of perception n bias...sorry but its reality n truth is always bitter..

Naxal activities began in India in 1946 to fight against cruel landlords in Andhra Pradesh..Farmers and labourers revolted against this big Landlords and were successful too..Nearly 10,000 Acres of land was distributed to landless farmers, but in this revolt against mafia landlords nearly 4000 people died..This is a history..But now what happens is not according to Naxal Theory..Now it is purely TERRORISM...uprooting railway bridges, settign fire to hundreds of trucks carrying food or fuel, guerilla attack on our soldiers and destabilizing country..According to me,all the Maoist activists should be shot dead..they did more damage to India than terrorists..

Naxalites are those who fight for freedom of the downtrodden and equal social and financial status for all, irrespective of class, caste and religion. They are for decentralization of power.

On the other hand Terrorists are those who commit any attrocity for the vested interest. They do not count the interest of a large public. Best example what's happened now in Iraq/Syria/Libya/Nigeria/Kenya/Lebanon/Jordan.
