Australian convict marries ahead of hanging

Canberra, April 28 (IANS): An Australian drug smuggler has married his fiancee at an Indonesian prison ahead of his execution, media reported on Tuesday.

Andrew Chan, the convict, was celebrating on Monday night with his wife Febyanti Herewila, said his brother Michael.

"They had a celebration inside the prison, with close family and friends," he said.

Andrew Chan, 31, and Myuran Sukumaran, 33, are set to face the firing squad in Indonesia after being arrested in 2005, for trying to smuggle 8.2 kg of heroin worth 40 billion rupiah (about $3.1 million) into Indonesia.

They have been kept at Besi prison on Nusakambangan Island, ABC reported.

Indonesian government officials have signalled the execution of nine death row prisoners will most likely go ahead this week.
