Mild tremors felt in Odisha


Bhubaneswar, April 25 (IANS): Mild tremors were felt in some parts of Odisha as a massive earthquake hit large parts of India and Nepal on Saturday.

The quake struck at around 11.40 a.m.

Sources said the tremors were felt in Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Kendrapara, Puri, Baleswar, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak and Sonepur.

There was no loss of life and property. Cracks have appeared in some houses and buildings in these areas, triggering panic.

Sarat Sahu, director of the Indian Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar, said the intensity of the quake in the state was 2 in the Ritcher scale.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Mohapatra said there has been no loss of life in the state.

"We hope there was no loss of life due to the quake. We are collecting reports from the districts for detailed reports about the outcome of the mild tremors," said Mohapatra.
