Tremors felt in Kochi


Kochi, April 25 (IANS): Tremors were felt in Kochi on Saturday with people running out of their homes and offices.

A disaster management official told reporters tremors were felt in Kochi. "We have checked up with officials who monitor earthquakes. There was just a ripple of earthquake here," said an official.

Many people were seen rushing out of tall buildings that houses several offices. "Our office is on the seventh floor and close to 12 noon, I felt my pen moving on the table. I felt my chair was moving. I got up and saw my colleagues running," said an employee.

"We heard there could be more tremors, so we came outside our office," solar judicial commission secretary told reporters.

A resident said: "I was on the 17th floor and was eating. I saw my plate moving. I ran out of the office."

The intensity of the earthquake that shook Nepal was 7.9 on the Richter scale, according to the USGS.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the earthquake had an intensity of 7.5 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre was at Lamjung in Nepal - a district some 75 km of Kathmandu. The tremors were felt in Nepal, India and Bangladesh.
