Uttarakhand likely to get rain, snow

Dehradun, April 1 (IANS): Uttarakhand is likely to get heavy rains and snowfall over the next two days, the weather office here said on Wednesday.

The weatherman has forecast snowfall and inclement weather in many parts of the state. Rains were expected in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts, an official told IANS.

An alert has been sounded across the state which has pushed back the scheduled maintenance and repair work on the Char Dham Yatra that begins in April with the onset of summer.

The annual pilgrimage that includes Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri has been badly hit since the 2013 flash floods that killed thousands and rendered millions homeless in the state.

The higher altitude regions were already witnessing snowfall. Traffic has been disrupted on the Badrinath route and the highway has been thrown out of bounds for heavy vehicles.
