Gunman detained after occupying Turkish ruling party's building

Istanbul, April 1 (IANS): A gunman was detained after he occupied the building of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Turkey's largest city of Istanbul on Wednesday, media reported.

According to the report, the gunman evacuated the building in the district of Kartal and raised a flag with a sword figure on the window of the top floor of the building, Xinhua news agency reported citing the private Dogan News service.

After 20 minutes, Turkish special operation teams entered the building and detained the gunman, the report said.

Turkish media said the incident could be related with a hostage crisis a day earlier.

On Tuesday, Turkish prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz and two militants of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) were killed during an operation by the Turkish special operation teams.
