Teenager charged over offensive remarks on Lee Kuan Yew

Singapore, March 31 (IANS): A Singapore court on Tuesday charged a 16-year-old boy over offensive remarks on late former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew and uploading online materials against Christianity.

Amos Yee Pang Sang faces three charges which were committed last Friday and Saturday, the Straits Times reported.

He was arrested on Sunday.

Amos allegedly uploaded content online which contained remarks against Christianity with the deliberate intention of hurting the religious feelings of Christians.

He is also said to have transmitted electronically an image showing obscene figures.

The third charge is he made an insulting video clip online, containing remarks about the late prime minister, which was intended to be heard and seen by hundreds.

Among the remarks he made was "good riddance" and his hope that Lee would not rest in peace.

A pre-trial conference has been fixed for April 17.

Filing legal cases on this kid (Amos Yee) and arresting him is like attesting what he meant in the video about Singapore politics and middle-class worker issues and how religious missionaries are exploiting this situation there.

Instead the law-enforcement should have notified his mischief to his parents and d the Youtube video. That itself would have been a big enough punishment for this kid. He needs guidance and only a small punishment. Also his ignorant parents should not be blamed. Everyone where he lives and his teachers are all guilty and answerable to Singapore law enforcement. Now his life and job prospects are damaged.

You might have heard the African proverb that says “it takes a whole village to raise a child”. Many scholars, business people and even politicians agree that due to internet, the complete globe has become a global village. Hence, the responsibility of raising a child falls on the entire humanity that has access to the internet.

In Bible Matthew 5:22 to 25...Matthew 6:15....Mark 11:25...Luke 6:27... Jesus speaks about anger and forgiveness.

It will be a disgrace on Christians living not only in Singapore but across the world to put this young teen to trial. Teachers and other adults in Singapore will be ashamed for making this young teen stand guilty who ignorantly made a Youtube video out of his frustration of middle-class match-box family life.

    Peace :)
