Turkey expresses support for anti-Houthi operation in Yemen

Istanbul, March 27 (IANS): Turkey on Thursday announced its support for the military operation against Houthi militia in Yemen, urging the group and its foreign supporters to refrain from acts that threaten peace and security in the region, a media report said.

The Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement that Ankara sees that the operation will restore the legitimate authority in Yemen and prevent the risk of a civil war, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that his country might consider providing logistics to the operation in Yemen.

In an interview with France 24 TV, Erdogan called on the Houthi militias to put an end to the destabilisation of Yemen.

Meanwhile, thousands of people in the Yemeni city of Taiz also took to the street in support of the Saudi airtrike against the Houthi group.
