Iraq urges dialogue instead of force to end Yemen chaos

Baghdad, March 27 (IANS): The Iraqi government on Thursday expressed concerns about the military intervention in Yemen and urged for dialogue to end the country's unrest.

Iraqi foreign ministry expressed its concern for "the military intervention in Yemeni affairs, which leads to further complexity of the situation in Yemen, and would not allow to adopt political solution in the current complicated circumstances", Xinhua reported citing a statement.

Iraq urged all parties, including Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries, to resort to dialogue in order to maintain Yemen's integrity and sovereignty.

"Our position is to renounce the use of force, and urge all Yemeni parties to overcome all their disputes to reach an agreement in order to avoid the risk of fighting," the ministry said.

It also called on the Arab countries to support national dialogue in Yemen with the participation of all political powers in order to reach a political solution for Yemen crisis.

Saudi Arabia said on Thursday it has led a coalition of several states, including the Gulf states and Egypt, to carry out airstrikes against the Houthi forces in Yemen.
