Panaji, Feb 20: Chief minister Pratapsing Rane laid the foundation stone for a new boys' hostel for Goa University in the presence of the vice-chancellor of Goa University at the University complex.

Speaking on this occasion, Rane assured of his government's total support to the University's activities to make it a centre of excellence. Vice chancellor Prof P S Zacharias gave the welcome address.
GSIDC managing director Manish Bahuguna also spoke on the occasion. Registrar, Dr M M Sangodkar proposed the vote of thanks.
The proposed area of the hostel is 3675 sq mts with a capacity of 84 twin staying rooms in a ground plus two-storied building. The project will be taken up by GSIDC.
The cost on completion will be approximately Rs 5 crores and the expected time of completion is 14 months.
