IS claims responsibility for Libya bomb attacks

Benghazi, March 25 (IANS): The Islamic State (IS) terror group on Wednesday claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attacks on Libya's Benghazi city, which killed 12 people and injured dozens.

Several IS affiliate groups in Libya have posted a video on social media web sites showing a series of suicide bombings in Benghazi, Xinhua news agency reported.

The video contains footages of one attacker, allegedly a Tunisian, claiming to be a "Khalifa soldier" and preparing to mount an assault on an army checkpoint.

The attacks hit roads in al-Laithi area, near the airport of Benghazi, killing 12, including seven army soldiers.

State-run al-Nabaa TV said the attacks were in retaliation for the death of Mohamed al-Arebi, also known as Boka al-Arebi, a senior militant leader killed in combat with the Libyan national army.
