Pandemonium mars J&K assembly proceedings


Jammu, March 25 (IANS): Pandemonium marred the proceedings of Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly on Wednesday over a National Conference legislator allegedly calling the speaker a "Hindu fundamentalist".

As the day's proceedings started, many ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators stormed to the speaker's podium protesting against Javaid Rana's remark.

The BJP legislators alleged that Rana had called Speaker Kavinder Gupta "a Hindu fundamentalist".

There were counter protests in the assembly by National Conference legislators following which the speaker them to calm down.

During question hour, independent legislator Engineer Rashid advanced to the speaker's podium to press his demand for the return of the mortal remains of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged in February 2013.

The speaker then ordered the marshals to evict him from the house for interrupting the proceedings.
