Islamabad, March 25 (IANS): Four murder convicts were hanged on Wednesday in three different jails in Pakistan, a media report said.

Abdul Razzaq Chohan and Jalal Morejo were hanged at Sukkur Central Prison-1 in Sindh province, Dawn online reported.

Chohan had killed Aftab Merani, a student, and was sentenced to death in 2003.

Morejo was found guilty of killing a man in 1997 and was sentenced in 2000.

Another death row convict, Shahbaz Ali, was hanged in Punjab province's Sahiwal Central Jail. Ali had shot dead a seven-year-old boy in 1998 over a land dispute.

The forth convict Ghulam Yaseen, was executed at Central Jail Bahawalpur, also in Punjab province. He was convicted in 2002 for rape and murder.

Some 8,000 condemned prisoners are still facing death row in various jails across the country.

The government had lifted the moratorium on the death penalty on December 17, 2014, in terrorism related cases in the wake of a Taliban attack at the Army Public School in Peshawar, which killed more than 140 people, mostly children, on 16 December 2014.

Later, the government completely reinstated capital punishment for all offences that entail the death penalty.
