Gold worth over $115,000 seized at Bangladesh airport


Dhaka, March 20 (IANS): Customs officials at the Shah Amanat Airport in the Bangladeshi city of Chittagong seized 16 gold bars weighing around two kg from a United Arab Emirates (UAE) flyer, media reported.

The passenger, Jahangir Alam, landed at the airport on an Air Arabia flight from Ras al Khaimah in the UAE around on Friday, said assistant director of airport customs intelligence department Syed Mokaddes Hossain, according to a bdnews24.com report.

“He was searched at the green channel because of his suspicious behaviour and we found the 16 bars in his shoes.”

Custom officials added that the gold bars would fetch a market price of Bangladeshi taka nine million (nearly $115,820).
