Mangalore, Feb 7: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka and IT company IBM, Bangalore have signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for academic and research collaboration, stated a press release.

The MoUs, which were signed on January 30, were initiated by the computer engineering department of NITK and IBM.

While the first MoU, NITK-IBM CAS (Centre for Advanced Studies) is to develop technologies and capabilities of common interest. IBM will also assist students and faculty of NITK to research in various fields.

The second MoU deals with the outline of a strategic understanding between IBM and NITK to create an ‘IBM Open Power Systems Laboratory’ for students and faculty.

The laboratory is the first of its kind to be set up in India, the release stated. NITK, Suratkal director Dr Sandeep Sanchetti, IBM university relations programme director Amol Mahamuni and IBM India vice-president Harish K Grama signed the MoUs in the presence of senior engineers of IBM and NITK computer engineering department head Vinay Kumar.
