Udupi Feb 5: The "Akki (Rice) Muhurta” which is the second of the preliminary functions for the next paryaya festival, was performed here on Sunday Feb 4by Shri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji of Sri Puttige Math, who will take-over as paryaya Peetadhipathi on January 18, 2008.

Shri Vibudesha Teertha Swamiji of Adamaru Math, Shri Vidyavallabha Teertha Swamiji of Kaniyur Math, Shri Lakshmivara Teertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math, and Shri Raghumanya Teertha Swamiji of Shri Bhemanakatte Math were brought in a procession to the Puttige Math.  The representatives of other Maths and scholars were felicitated during this function. Thousands of devotees attended this function with lot of devotion and enthusiasm.

On this auspicious occasion, Shri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji said that at this point of time mere economic globalization is not enough, it is necessary for spiritual globalization also.

Shri Vibudesha Teertha Swamiji of Shri Adamaaru Math clarified that God is also called as 'Lakshmidhara'. Dhara means this earth, full earth, not a part of it. So, there is absolutely no issue in crossing the ocean which is very well a part of this earth.  Shri Swamiji also challenged everyone that, Hanuman, a true devotee of Lord Rama is the first one who crossed the ocean, hence those who are opposing Shri Sugunendra Teertha swamiji for crossing the ocean has to first oppose Sri Hanuman.

This function was attended by the dignitaries like minister for higher education V S Acharya, MLA Raghupathi Bhat and former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punarooru.

The ritual was conducted under the guidance of the renowned priests, Vedamurthy Kukkikatte Sridhara Tanthri and Kenja Sridhar Tanthri.
