Swine flu hits UP legislator, Lucknow reports 228 cases


Lucknow, Feb 23 (IANS): Thirty new cases of swine flu -- including a legislator of the ruling Samajwadi Party -- have been reported in the Uttar Pradesh capital, taking the total to 228, officials said Monday.

Vijay Mishra, legislator from Gyanpur, had gone to the pre-wedding celebrations of Mainpuri Lok Sabha member Tej Pratap Singh Yadav in Saifai a few days back and returned with bodyache, fever and cold.

He tested positive for HiN1 and was referred to a medical facility in Delhi.

The legislator has been quarantined and is undergoing treatment at Apollo hospital in Delhi.

Meanwhile, two students have tested positive for swine flu in Barabanki.

Health department officials told IANS that 228 people have tested positive for H1N1 and six people have died in Lucknow.

The latest death was of a middle-aged woman at the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences.
