Mangalore, Jan 19: It was a special moment for M.N. Raghu, a native of Jangalapalli in Bagepalli taluk of Kolar district. A post-graduate in history from Bangalore University with two gold medals, Raghu was declared the best all-round police constable recruit from among 104 trainees who passed out from the police training school here on Thursday. Raghu was also declared the best trainee.

Raghu, who had been a lecturer at Government Pre-University College, Chintamani, before joining the police training school here and will shortly be posted to one of the police stations under the Bangalore police commissionerate, told The Hindu that it was his dream to join the civil services and he had been working hard in this direction for the past two years.

He said he had cleared a selection interview for the post of lecturer at the Government Degree College here and would take it up if selected. But he had not given up his dream to join the civil services. "I did not do well in my first attempt. But that has not deterred me. I will try again," he said.
