Damascus, Feb 16 (IANS): Seven people were killed and many others wounded by fresh rebel mortar shelling on a government-controlled district of Syria's northern province of Aleppo Monday, media reported.
The shelling targeted the government-controlled al-Seryan district in the western part of Aleppo, Xinhua reported citing the official Syrian TV, accusing "terrorists" of being behind the shelling.
Meanwhile, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Syrian warplanes carried out several airstrikes on militant positions in the rebel-held eastern part of Aleppo city amid incessant clashes in other parts of the conflict-torn city.
Also Monday, the state news agency SANA said Syrian troops continued hitting positions of armed "terrorist" groups in Eastern Ghouta countryside of the capital Damascus, killing many militants.
