Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore in soup for sexist remark

New Delhi, Feb 15 (DC): An alleged sexist remark by minister of state for information and broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has created a major controversy.

Interacting with women journalists at Indian Women’s Press Corps on Friday, he reportedly said that women in media would be better off pursuing off-field roles like that of news analysis as opposed to field reporting in view of safety, challenging conditions and odd hours of work.

However, after being flayed on social media over the remarks, Rathore immediately changed track and claimed that he was misunderstood. He posted a series of tweets denying he had said that women journalists are more suited for off-field roles like news analysis instead of field reporting.

“Wrong interpretation. My wife is an ex-soldier,” Rathore, 45, said in one tweet. In another he protested, “False, false, false. Totally false, Shame

Roshan Braganza, so what? You did agreed that women are (even if they are few) taking up the challenging jobs. So, don't you think that women do have their choice when it comes to take up jobs? So, you're trying to say, in India one minister decides what kind of job women should take up, another minister will decide how many children women should have (precisely Hindu women) and how those children should be brought up, another group of people will decide how women should dress up another group decides when is the time for them to marry (that is when they start going to park with their boy friends) Did you left any decisions of your life to these ministers/groups? if, not why those women who WANT to work what they like. There is nothing called feminist in this subject. Rathore said his wife was an ex soldier and you think it is not women's work. Did Rathore took your advice when he married her and asked her to quit that job and as a result he is trying to decide who should be working where? It is not happening in Communist China for your information but happens rather similarly (not exactly) only in Vietnam.

@ashok , yes there can be , but its very rare. Almost negligible as compared to men , who face hardships. M not generalising here , lets check up some recent accidents in mines , fires and even war camps , its men who die in millions. See any typical office environment ,men are assigned challenging jobs like which involves travelling and site visits. So ministers vibe was technically correct . In any news channel and journalism , a glamour content of any girl gets more appreciated than the risky , ground work and sting operation which is been done and led by men only. The minister may be forced to refute his statement , because media breeds feminism , any arguments which challenges ' female patriarchy ' is treated as Sexist commemt.

Roshan Braganza, very childish comment from you. I can see that you haven't seen the world then. You might even say, there are no female fighter jet pilots. There are female sewage cleaners. If you haven't seen them does not mean there are no one. Go and spend sometimes in the developed countries where you will find women in construction, mining, military, intelligence agency, truck drivers .etc..etc... Why are you showing your ignorance here mate. By the way, Rathore said his wife is an ex-soldier and he did not say about women sewage cleaners.

The most challenging and risky Jobs like military mines are done by men only and they make ultimate sacrifice. Think of any risky or hard labour jobs , its the men who do it. Have your seen any women sewage cleaners !? NO. The minister was right is his view , so why apologise to feminist media !?

Modi is thriving with such out of the way\unwanted\controversial remarks from his ministers every now and then. He also was calling names like anarchist and belittling AAP members during election rallies.
When anything like this happens, he becomes "MOUN"!!!
BJP Ministers purposely make various useless\controversial remarks (they have been told to) just to draw peoples' attention away from the loose and ineffective governance and many U-turns taken from their election promises. Only believers are sanghis and very shortly they may even won't believe their own Government.
High time people who voted start asking the Govt. they elected for their performance report...

N.M, you correctly said "Our nation cannot progress as long as we have such backward political party with Talibani mindset".
I do not understand why these politicians, irrespective of party (please note)give always rubbish comments. Indian women are already not up to the same standard to their western counterparts and they need more support from their family and society as well as from government to stand high equally o men in India. Instead these bloody politicians keep telling that women should be inside their home and their role should be to bear the children (this increased since BJP came to power) Mr. Rathore, being a minister (of the present government) it is your duty to provide security to any women who want to work outside. Every women have their own right to decide whether they want to work outside or inside the house. They do not need your suggestion about this nor about how many children they should have. If you're incapable of providing that safe environment, please shut your mouth. Can I ask you when you're only 45, how your wife became already an ex soldier? Did she became ex, the day she married you?? I will not be surprised if it is so. No wonder Rajakeeya stands for RVvan,JArasandh, KEEchank and YAma like Kannada hasya lekhaki B.Hedge once told. You people are less humane(irrespective of party again)

This Rathore has the gall to say that CBFC is an autonomous body and the government has no say in its functioning. If that is so, then who appoints the members to the 'autonomous body'???? Also, when petrol prices rise, the BJP says that it is not in their control, but take credit when prices are lowered..!! Trust is built by not distorting facts and refraining from doublespeak. So many lessons have to be learnt from the debacles of the performance of previous central government. That is, if one is willing to learn.

BJP members are expert in brainwashing, spreading hatred & taking U-turn.

By the way Rajyavardhan is known for giving inflammatory & nonsense statements as most of the BJP leaders do.
