Delhi election verdict exposed BJP, Modi: Mayawati

Lucknow, Feb 13 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh former chief minister and BSP chief Mayawati Friday lashed out at the BJP and accused it of doing everything to fool the people of India.

Mayawati told reporters at the party headquarters here that the people of Delhi had "shown the right place" to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The "hawai vaade" (false promises) of the BJP had been exposed in its nine-month tenure, she said.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief also charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with rolling out projects and schemes that were aimed at bringing in more profit for the business and elite class.

"The rich are prospering under the present dispensation and the poor, farmers and weaker sections of the society are suffering," she said.

Referring to the Delhi election debacle for the BJP, Mayawati said the humiliating defeat in Delhi has taught the BJP a lesson.

She also accused the BJP of fielding dummy candidates in the Delhi assembly polls.

The four-time chief minister also slammed the BJP for trying to usurp power in Bihar through unconstitutional means.

When asked about BSP's rout in the Delhi polls, Mayawati said her party has paid the price for supporting UPA-II.

When asked about her stand over the BSP losing the national party status, Mayawati said she will give her response to the Election Commission.
