PM summons Delhi Police chief over school attack

New Delhi, Feb 13 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday summoned Delhi Police chief B.S. Bassi after a Christian-run school was ransacked, and expressed "deep concern and anguish" over rising crime in Delhi.

Modi told Bassi to speedily investigate the incident, which occurred at the Holy Child Auxilium school in Vasant Vihar in south Delhi.

"The prime minister asked the police commissioner to speedily investigate the recent incidents of vandalism (of Christian schools) and ensure that the guilty are brought to book," said an official statement.

It said Modi also spoke over telephone to Home Secretary L.C. Goyal.

"The prime minister asked the home secretary to pay special attention to the rising incidents of crime and vandalism, and to work towards ensuring the safety and security of women in the capital," the statement said.

Unidentified people barged into the Holy Child Auxilium early Friday and ransacked the principal's office, damaged some CCTV cameras and stole around Rs.8,000 from a donation box.
