Shark kills Japanese in Australia

Canberra, Feb 9 (IANS): A Japanese man was killed Monday in a shark attack while surfing in Australia's New South Wales' north coast.

A group of surfers pulled out the severely injured man from the water at Shelly Beach, ABC reported.

A police official said despite efforts of fellow surfers to save him, the man died at the scene due to massive loss of blood.

"We can confirm the man is a Japanese national, aged 41," the police official said.

"He's been living in the Ballina town for around 12 months."

He said the man was surfing in a group when the shark attacked.

A shark expert has been called in to assist police in the search of the killer shark.

The incident is the 15th fatal shark attack in Australian waters since 2010.
