Terror attack averted in Assam, two militants nabbed

Guwahati, Feb 5 (IANS): A terror attack was Thursday averted in Assam when a joint team of the army and Assam Police arrested two Bodo militants and seized 12 kg of RDX from their possession.

The two cadres of the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were arrested from Baksa district in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts, said a statement issued by Guwahati-based defence spokesperson Lt. Col. Suneet Newton.

They were identified as 30-year-old Lwmsao Narzary and 21-year-old Sistu Basumatary.

Considering the amount of explosives seized from them, it is believed that the militants planned to carry out major subversive activities across the state.

Over 70 NDFB militants have either been killed or arrested from various areas of Assam after security forces launched an operation following the Dec 23 massacre that left over 75 people dead in three districts.
