Kejriwal's claims on EVMs incorrect: EC

New Delhi, Feb 5 (IANS): The Election Commission Wednesday termed as "totally incorrect and unacceptable" AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's contention that electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the Feb 7 Delhi assembly polls have been tampered with.

"Your comments about tampering of four EVMs in 38-Delhi Cantt assembly constituency is totally incorrect and unacceptable. The commission expected you to ascertain the correct facts on EVMs before making the comment on social media," the poll panel said in a letter to Kejriwal.

The Election Commission said the Aam Aadmi Party's representative was present during the sealing of the strong room in 38-Delhi Cantt.

In a tweet earlier in the day, Kejriwal has said: "We suspect EVM tampering. Tried to meet CEC (chief election commissioner) yesterday (Tuesday). He was busy. Hope we will be able to meet him today (Wednesday)."

"We urge CEC to allow us to put a banner outside each booth educating voters about EVMs," he said.

In a separate statement, the commission allayed fears about tampering of EVMs in Delhi polls, saying it has put in place elaborate administrative measures.

"It is reiterated that the commission has put in place elaborate administrative measures and procedural checks and balances aimed at prevention of any possible misuse of procedural lapses," the commission said in the statement.

"The EC has full confidence in the non-tamperability of ECI-EVMs and assures all electors of the country that EVMs used by the commission in elections are non-tamperable."

The poll panel further said the list of EVMS going to individual polling stations is given to the candidates for them to check before the polling day.

"After the polls, the EVMs are also sealed in such a manner that there is no physical access to any of the buttons on the EVMs," the statement said.

Kejriwal's lie can be clearly seen here. Other day he tweeted when 2, 3 machines were checked only BJP button was lighting whatever button is pressd. Now he is saying he suspects the EVM malfunction! When EC asked him to give Machine numbers he is unable to give. What a lier. People believe him.
