Blue Star to focus on room and inverter AC business

Kolkata, Feb 4 (IANS): Air-conditioner (AC) makers Blue Star Wednesday said it is focusing on growing its room AC business market share from the current nine percent to 10 percent in the next fiscal year.

"Our present market share in the room AC segment is around nine percent and we aim to take it to 10 percent in the coming financial year," B. Thiagarajan, president of Blue Star's AC and refrigeration division, told mediapersons here.

The company said the AC market would grow by 15 percent in the coming fiscal with the potential pegged at 20 percent, and their focus would be on the five-star AC market.

They also expect inverter ACs to perform. Inverter ACs convert the alternate current to direct current, thereby reducing the load on the devices as well as ensuring smooth performance.

"Inverter ACs save 30 percent more power than five-star rated ACs. However, the market share of these is merely eight percent. That is likely to triple in the coming two years. Undoubtedly, inverter ACs are the future," he said.

Thiagarajan said five-star ACs account for 25 percent of the AC market-share.

The company has so far registered a revenue of Rs.800 crore from domestic operations and expects to close the ongoing fiscal year at Rs.1,000 crore. It has billed 300,000 units till now and they expect to bill another 40,000 units before the financial year ends.

As of now, the company has registered a growth of 30 percent in revenue and 19 percent in volume.

AC exports of the company to the SAARC countries, Middle-East and Africa account for about ten percent of its total billed products.
